Chaos Space Marines: Reviewing, purchasing, setting new projects and conversions Part 2.

Setting up a CSM project isn't as easy as it seems. As there are many factors which have a great amount of influence on my decisions:

- I want my models on the releasedate or fairly close to this date.
- I want to spend as less money as I can without buying excess stuff which will end up on my shelves collecting dust.
- Buying the necessary models to build my basic army. Afterwards expanding it every time by 250 - 500 points.

My basic army will be set on 1000 points. Unlike some of my armies I want to include lots of bodies on the table. This means I want lots of Cultists. Beside these I want to set up a few shooting squads backed up by some heavy support fire. Most likely these will consist out of basic marines and a couple of Daemon Engines.
As the finishing touch I want to add a close combat element into my army. These will preform fast shock assaults. Terminators and Raptors are fit to preform this role. If I have spare points I might throw in a Warp Talon squad and/or Chosen.

As some of us already know champions can be upgraded with the "Boon of Mutation". This allows you to roll on the gifts-table. There's a small chance your champion would receive the ultimate gift becoming a Daemon Prince. Alternatively if you're really in bad luck the champion would turn into a Spawn. This means I need a Daemon Prince in case I roll a doube 6, not to mention a Spawn as well.

So the rough setting of my army would be the following:

HQ:
Chaos Lord/ Dark Apostle

Elites:
Chaos Terminators
(Chosen)

Troops:
10 Chaos Space Marines
20 Cultists
20 Cultists

Fast Attack
10 Raptors or 2 squads of 5
(Warp Talons)

Heavy Support
2 Forgefiends (Hades Autocannons)

1 Daemon Prince for Boon of Mutation

This should be around 1000 points, though it's not certain untill I have the codex for pointclearance.

                                                         Purchasing

As I´ve set my basic list it´s time to see which stuff I need to get.

Things I have:

- Chaos Lord: either power armour version from DV set or the Terminator Lord.
- Dark Apostle: I'll be using the Chosen (powermace version) as the Dark Apostle. Very few adjustments are needed.
- Terminators: Depending on a possible future release with recuts I won't be redoing my Terminators. I'll leave them as they are.
- Cultists: Got all from DV set (I bought 2 sets), currently in progress.
- Chaos Space Marines: I'll temporarly use the DV Chosen, most likely I'll be needing a Aspiring Champion as well.
- Daemon Prince: I'll be converting/kitbash  this with the remaining bitz I have.

Things I don't have:

- Raptors: I'll be buying 2 boxes
- Warp Talons: 1 box. It leaves me with loads of bits and weapons (melta and plasma) to upgrade my other squads. In the future I might buy a few more of these.
- Forgefiends: will be buying 2 boxes
- Chaos Space Marine: will be purchasing Aspiring Champion as I need someone to lead my Chaos Space Marine squad.

Total costs on new purchases at a 3rd party online store: ~ €150,- plus the Codex, but I'll be ordering this at GW website and pick it up at my local GW store.

Stay tuned for more,as my next post will be covering colorscheme and modeling/conversion ideas.
